Blundstone Resole and Repair 101
Blundstone Chelsea boots are a staple in Vancouver and beyond—and for good reason! They’re stylish, comfortable, and easy to slip on. However, like many mass-manufactured boots, Blundstones are designed with a Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) sole that deteriorates within five years, crumbling away over time. The good news? Awl Together Leather specializes in professional Blundstone repair, from full resoling to stitching repairs, ensuring your boots last for years to come.
Why Do Blundstone Boot Soles Crumble?

Blundstones use TPU soles that break down naturally over time. When this happens, the sole will literally crumble like wet chalk. Many cobblers don’t properly repair Blundstones, failing to remove all the deteriorated rubber before applying a new sole. If the old material isn’t fully removed, the repair won’t last. That’s why at Awl Together Leather, we take the time to completely remove the damaged TPU sole and replace it with a durable new option.
Blundstone Resole – Your Fullsole Options
Since Blundstone soles are originally attached using injection molding, they require a specialized repair process. Our expert cobblers use high-quality replacement soles that securely adhere to your boot, extending its lifespan and keeping it out of the landfill. The new sole must “wrap-up” to cover the line of the old sole. Resoling Blundstones is the only environmentally friendly option that saves your boots from a landfill. And the best part? Once resoled, Blundstones can be re-heeled, or half-soled, thanks to the new, stable fullsole we have installed.
All our shoe repair work comes with an optional courtesy shoe shine. You’ll get your boots back looking fresher than ever!
Option 1 – The Bifida Cupsole

The Bifida Cupsole is perfect for those who need extra durability. This rugged option wraps up the boot’s sides, covering extra wear and tear. Ideal for Blundstone steel-toe work boots or anyone hard on their footwear, this sole is waterproof, slip-resistant, and built to last. At Awl Together Leather, we securely stitch the cupsole onto your boot, ensuring long-term reliability.
Option 2 – The Vibram Gumlite Series

For those looking for a lightweight, casual-wear option, the Vibram Gumlite Series (including Stowe & Bologna soles) provide a sleek, comfortable solution. We add a 360-degree EVA welt around the boot to mimic the original shape and feel of Blundstones. This combination of EVA and rubber makes for a soft, flexible sole that won’t weigh you down. Keep in mind that softer soles wear out faster than the Bifida option.

Option 3 – Go Wild!
Want a truly one-of-a-kind Blundstone? Awl Together Leather offers bespoke boot customization. Choose from unique sole options like a Christy sole, add a custom welt, or even patch your boots with denim! We also offer mail-in services, so you can repair your Blundstones no matter where you are.
Blundstone Boot Repairs – Gussets, Stitching, Holes & More!
Gusset replacements, redoing popped stitching, and mending holes are all common fixes that we provide on all Chelsea boots (including Blundstones). Replacing the stretched-out gussets is one of the easiest way to extend the life of your boot. We regularly patch rips at the sole edge or holes in the uppers, using a smooth interior patch and minimal stitching around the area. Awl Together Leather holds the highest re-sewing standards and only sews in existing stitch lines – this looks better and extends the life of your boots!
Repairing Elastic Panels aka Gussets

The elastic side panels (or gussets) of Blundstone boots stretch out over time. We replace these panels with high-quality elastic, restoring the original snug fit of your boots.
Repair Blundstone Rips

If your boot finds itself with a rip along the sole edge, we can definitely patch that up for you. Sometimes it can be caused by wearing a boot too narrow for one’s foot, but often times, the leather in the torn area was a weaker part of the hide to begin with (and so more susceptible to a tear). A new patch of leather is added inside the boot, in such a way that you shouldn’t be able to notice it while wearing. For additional strength, we sew in the patch, so sometimes a discreet line of sewing is visible along the sole edge.
(The boot above has also been freshly treated with a heavy conditioner!)
Replacing Blundstone Pull-Tabs

If you need new pull-tabs, we’ve got you covered. These handy tabs making getting a Blundstone on and off much easier! We can re-install your existing ones, replace damaged ones, or re-make them in another material or colour entirely (such as with leather or nylon webbing).
Heelbacks / Heel Liners

On a well loved pair of boots, especially those with elastic gussets, it’s very common to wear through your heelback / heel liners. Holes in the back of your Blundstone boots can be repaired with a new leather lining! We always use a durable but soft leather (in the color of your choice!), so your repaired Blundstone boots should feel like they did when you first bought them!
Repairing Boot Dog Chews

Does your dog chew your boots? Eek! Just because they’ve taken out a bite, it doesn’t mean they’re done for. Every dog bite is different, so we recommend sending us a photo of the damage and we can send you back a quote for the work. Our wide selection of leather means we’ll likely have a perfect color match, or something creatively different, to patch your Blundstone with!
Stitching Holes in Boot Upper

Have holes developed in the flex points of your Blundstones? We can patch them! This usually entails backing the spot with a thin leather (internally) and then zig-zag stitching overtop. After repair, you shouldn’t be able to feel the spot with your foot whatsoever.
