Asparagus Magazine – Envisioning the Future of Shoe Repair (July 4th, 2024) – Awl Together Owner, Ariss Grutter, wrote a piece for Asparagus Magazine on the future of the shoe repair industry – in Vancouver and beyond!

Innovation Fuel Podcast – Passing a Legacy of Trade and Dreams with Awl Together Leather (March 27th, 2024) – “In this week’s episode of Innovation Fuel, Dave Keighron and Dr. Gelareh Farhadian chat with Ariss Grutter and Tess Gobeil, co-founders of Awl Together Leather in Vancouver, about their passion for sustainability and inclusion in leatherwork and shoe repair.”
Asparagus Magazine – Shoes: The Pollutants Beneath Our Feet (Nov 20th, 2023) – Writer Sun Woo Baik interviewed Ariss about the long-term sustainability of the shoes, why people buy shoes made of TPU and what the challenges and effects of those choices are.
CBC – Northbeat (May 25th, 2023) – Producer George Maratos visited Awl Together at Raven’s Reuseful Store, inside of Raven Recycle. This aired on the Northbeat evening news and was a great opportunity for people far and wide to think about repair as an option.

CBC – Yukon Morning with Elyn Jones (May 24th, 2023) – While up in the Yukon (May 21st-29th, 2023) with Raven Recycle, Tess and Ariss spoke to Elyn Jones in the CBC studio about why they’re up in the North and what we are repairing at Raven’s Reuseful. This aired live on the radio that morning, around 7:50-8am.
The Saddler’s Post Podcast (May 18th, 2023) – Tess and Ariss got to swap stories about leatherworking and the craft with Christian Lowe on The Saddler’s Post podcast!
CBC – How to Take Care of Your Rain Boots (April 21st, 2023) – Tess spoke to Truc Nguyen (CBC) about how to keep your rain boots in great shape for the winter seasons. Lo, owner of Sole Survivor (Toronto) was also interviewed for the piece!
Canada Post – How Awl Together Leather is Reviving the Cobbling Industry (Feb 9th, 2023) – As part of the Canada Post Tales of Triumph Contest (in the Rising Stars category), Ariss Grutter participated in a panel discussion on small businesses.
CBC – These Metro Vancouver businesses want to make it easier for you to hold onto your clothing longer (Dec 29th, 2022) – Tess and Ariss spoke to CBC about the circular economy, sustainability, and the importance of repairing your items (including DIY!). Additionally, we were included on the CBC 6pm News that evening, which you can find on our Youtube channel!

Vancouver PRIDE #TogetherAgain 2022 (July/August 2022) – We were lucky to be included in the review of Kinky Boots (“Don’t Miss this Big-Hearted Broadway Musical”), as we were there shoe-shining on the opening night performance! We are included at the bottom of page 22, and the top of page 23.
The Stitchdown Shoecast – Cobbler and Bootmaker Tess Gobeil on How Doing Things Differently Has Propelled Her Repair Business (June 29th, 2022) – Tess sat down with Ben and Ticho to talk about being a female Cobbler, her favourite and least favourite jobs, Montreal bagels and more. This was an incredibly fun first-time being on a podcast!
BC Business Magazine – 30 Under 30 List (July/August 2022) – We were incredibly proud and excited to be included in a list of BC’s 30 Under 30 Business People, alongside some absolutely amazing talent. This was our second print feature, with photography by Adele Thomas.
Style Insider – Series 5, Episode 19 – Cobbler Redesigns Vintage Shoes (April 26th, 2022) – Produced by Meline Rosales at Style Insider, we resole and re-dyed a pair of tan vintage slip-ons to include a new Vibram ripple sole. This initially aired on Snapchat on April 26th, with Youtube and Facebook the following week.
Style Insider – Series 5, Episode 5 – Leatherworker Customizes Red Wing Boots (April 12th) – Produced by Meline Rosales at Style Insider, we resole and re-dyed a pair of Red Wing Heritage Moc-toe Boots, with red Vibram Cristy soles and matching laces. This initially aired on Snapchat on April 12th, with Youtube and Facebook in the following weeks.
Art Insider – Series 5, Episode 54 – How a Poorly Re-Dyed Dior Handbag is Restored (March 24th, 2022) – Produced by Jacky Barile at Art Insider, we were featured restoring a black quilted Dior handbag. This initially aired on Snapchat on March 24th, with Youtube and Facebook the following week.
Stitchdown – The Stitchdown Cobbler Guide: Where to Get Your Shoes and Boots Repaired, Resoled and Re-built (March 8th, 2022) – We spoke to Josh about repairs and our services. We’re proud to be included alongside some of the best Cobblers in North America.
Vancity Small Business Display Case (installed Feb 7th, 2022) – Vancity invited Awl Together Leather to set up and take over their Small Business Display Case, which specifically spotlights local businesses. We are grateful to be on display for the month, as well as to be members at Vancity!
Amplify Vancouver – JR FM and The Peak FM (December 30th, 2021) – Awl Together Leather was featured on the radio, through Amplify Vancouver. Amplify aims to promote local businesses that are an active and positive force in their communities.
Daily Hive – East Van entrepreneurs bring leatherwork and shoe repair into modern era (December 29th, 2021) – As a collaboration through Vancity and the Daily Hive (called Made in Vancouver), Daniel Chai wrote a fantastic piece introducing Awl Together Leather.
CBC – How to waterproof your winter wear (December 20th, 2021) – Tess was interviewed, as a source, for an article by the CBC about how to waterproof and prolong the life of your beloved leather goods (bags, boots and coats!).

Vancouver Magazine, pg. 60 – One for Awl (November/December 2021) – Writer Alyssa Hirose hit the nail on the head with her byline: “Awl Together Leather is giving the local leather goods – and the entire industry – a fresh look”. We couldn’t be more pleased to celebrate our first print feature.
WEC’s Community Stories – Ariss Grutter and Tess Gobeil, Awl Together Leather (October 22nd, 2021) – We both sat down to speak to the WEC about the struggles of opening a business, our role in the community, and how we built confidence in the business and ourselves.
